Like most of us have heard, Kim Kardashian West launched a beauty line ( KKW beauty) on Wednesday June 21st.
At 12 p.m. EST KKW beauty line went live online. Less than three hours later, at 2:38 p.m. Kim Kardashian confirmed that all the contour and highlight kits were sold out. Estimated cash in the bank $14.4 million.
Few hours later, same day the products which retailed at 48dollars on her website reappeared on ebay for 140 dollars. Success!
In october 3 2016, Kim-Kardashian endured a Paris robbery, social media break and dwindling resources because she was too scared to do appearances.
Then Kanye collapsed and needed mental health evaluation in the midst of her struggle with security issues. This put a strain on their marriage.
Fast forward 8 months later, she has risen from a dark place back to her throne as queen of social media and a beauty icon.
And no she did not wait for her iconic status to make a success of her makeup line, she did her due diligence and put some work into it.
After reading her interviews, comments, TV appearances and everything else leading up to the launch we can summarize her winning tips.
She took time off , focused and prioritized:
After the paris robbery, Kim was forced to take time off from social media and the rest of the world.
she had time to think of what she really should be doing. time to regenerate think and grow.
She had done her makeup everyday for 10 years. and she loved it. with millions of fans who wanted to get the same look, it was time to put that passion into a product
She focused not just on beauty, but an aspect she was really good at. The Contour queen!
Kim loved to contour her face. She did not create the technique, but she did take it to a whole new level.
Contouring is a makeup technique that can recreate your face, reshape your nose, or adjust your facial features. At the end you look bronzed and tanned with a perfect facial architecture
In her words No matter what look I’ve been doing – whether it’s a heavier makeup look , light make-up, smoky or color – contour has always been constant,’ she told Women’s Wear Daily in a new interview.
She did her due diligence and delivered a good product
The factory used was close by in california. that enabled her to make factory visits to see how everything is done
While the product was not perfect, she gave her best shot at delivering a quality product.
The brushes and bristles were soft, the product blended in quite smoothly.
She made sure the product was diverse for all skin tones.
The worst review she got from beauty guru Jackie Aina was a B- because the product was expensive, too little and broke off easily
She advertised: the proper way:
She gave makeup tutorials
She hinted on her social media pages
She did lots of press interviews leading up to her product launch.
And finally she launched and slayed
But in typical Kardashian style, there are bound to be controversies, loads of them:
Some said she was competing with junior sister Kylie Jenner who also had a make empire. to which she replied
I am older than Kylie. We definitely have a different audience. We do have a lot of similar things – but we aren’t doing the same products, so we won’t run into that overlap.
On the Controversy with Jackie Aina beauty makeup artist who gave her product a B- she replied
I respect and love that she has an opinion and I’ll take what she said and use it to better my products.
And the controversy rages on:
The Black face: she was accused for putting on a racial black face when she tried to demonstrate the products for darker skin tones.
The Kim Kardashian Contour challenge: in her make up tutorial she gave a 5minutes quick fix on how to use the contour kits and loads of ladies disbelieved her. They created the Kim Kardashian Contour challenge to show how unrealistic this was to them
What next for KKW beauty:
Kim said that with her line, she’s ‘trying to mirror skincare with makeup’.
With that in mind, KKW Beauty is coming out with an anti-aging concealer, under-eye protection cream and powder contour.
And oh, by the way Kim is a serial entrepreneur
Worth over 150 million dollars, some of her ventures include;
The Kardashian’s mobile app,
Her emoji’s Kimoji, costs $1.99 to subscribe
Her subscription-based personal app which costs $2.99 per month.
She is also an executive producer on her family’s long-running reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Kids clothing line the kidssupply.com
Dash stores
A chain of perfumery
At least that’s the much I remember.
Do I sound like a fan, of course I am, an undisputed die-hard fan.
what’s not to fan about, she is hardworking, savvy in business and super respectful to people who work with her.
