Am I the only one who thinks that Wizkid is trying to morph into an upgraded and revamped Fela Kuti for the new generation- The beats, the instruments, the vibes- Incase you have been waiting for “Baba-Nla” and “Daddy Yo” Wizkid, you may wait for a really long time, he seems to have killed that sound.
*side-note*- wizkid can only compare to Fela’s sound- not his activism
Fever and Master groove has confirmed that Wizkid is trying to dominate the Afro-beat Genre
And so far, we can’t say he is doing a bad job; but some of his sounds are somewhat repetitive though – new single “Fever” would get an average score of 5/10. sounds like his hit track “Manya” on a really bad day.
But “Master-groove” makes up for everything, the combination of drums, saxophone and other beats . thats a Jam right there – 9/10. Incase you are not feeling it yet, give it one week it would grow on you.
Afro pop is becoming a worldwide sensation;
Would not be far-fetched to suggest that wiz kid’s “Ojuelegba” got the music world looking to Nigeria for direction. Ojuelegba gathered international collaborations from the likes of Skepta and Drake, also spotted was Alicia Keys and swizz beats dancing to his song..
Nigeria now serves as the world’s Afro-beat hub as more international artist search for the unique sound- Nigerian music stars are selling out concert venues in New-York, Paris & London and performing at major music festivals.
Big music labels like Sony and Universal Music have set up shop in Nigeria and have signed distribution and promotion deals with Wizkid and Davido
With every new release, Wizkid is working to position himself as the new master of Afro-beats: Master groove and Fever is no exception . As Skepta put it in their new collabo “Young Fela Kuti, the return of the rebel”
