Serena Williams at the French Open: Could this be her post-baby come back story?

Who remembers that match Serena Williams lost and everyone blamed Drake? That was in 2015, She was about to make history as the second player in the world to win a calendar year slam after Steffi Graf. She was playing with Roberta Vinci an unseeded tennis player she had defeated four times in previous games.

Roberta Vinci who defeated Serena achieved every unseeded player’s dream–  because they are unranked and unrecognized, they must consider themselves lucky to even play in a major tournament. To prove their worth and earn a ranking, they must consistently meet and defeat the top ranked players early on in the game- from the first round.

After the unseeded players have been disposed of, the GOATS must now face each other in a battle for the Trophy. But sometimes there is a surprise loss, a giant falls to an unseeded and unranked player- just like Vinci brought down Serena in US open 2015 – ending her march to a calendar slam,

French open 2018.

Serena Williams 23 time grand Slam winner, 3 time French open winner,with a fortune in prize money and endorsement deals;  World number one for 319 weeks and one of the greatest athlete of all time would step into the Roland Garros as an unseeded and unranked player.

Presently Ranking world’s number 454- she would have to prove herself by facing the toughest players in the first round. We have never met a Serena Williams Fresh out of maternity leave following a complicated child birth that left her bedridden for six weeks; she would come into the game like an Underdog to face….

Kristyna Pliskova;

She is way younger than Serena at 26. She is ranking at world’s number 70.In 2018 she has won 13 matches and lost 11, she is sharp, swift and ready. Pliskova arrives in Paris after a fairly productive week on the clay courts of Nuremberg. She made it to the quarter finals.

Can serena pull a comeback:

This year, Serena Williams’ last match came against Naomi Osaka in the first round in Miami. Osaka, who had just won the biggest title of her career, was an unusually difficult opponent and Williams was comprehensively beaten 6-3 6-2.

Irrespective of being defeated earlier this year in straight sets, Williams’ coach  Patrick Mouratoglou is still confident the American can clinch a fourth French Open title.

There is a lot of debate about the fact that she is now unseeded, unranked, and would have to play her toughest games in the first round.

A lot of fans believe she is being punished for taking time off to give birth – she was world’s number 1 at the time; even Ivanka Trump served up some support Serena.

As the debate rages on, the game must go on. Tomorrow is a cloudy day at Roland Garros stadium. The clouds would thick with expectation from Serena William’s  fans on the court and streaming live across the world. #blackexecellence #acomeback-story
