An Italian man arrived to Nigeria through Turkish airlines on the 24th of January. He proceeded to Larfarge Cement offices at Ogun State where he works as a consultant, that was were he became symptomatic.
The Ogun State government has since shut down the factory and 28 contacts has been quarantined in the State. Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has said the ministry of health is using flight manifest to trace passengers who boarded Turkey Airline with the Italian.
According to findings by Sahara Reporters, The driver, who drove the infected Italian from Ogun State to Lagos, was exposed to him for at least five hours and was not isolated or quarantined but allowed to go home and this has heightened the risk of the virus spreading further.
Now we know Corona virus is here in Nigeria, we must Prepare in case a lock down will-be imposed in Lagos or Ogun State
Many countries are using a lock-down to stop further spread of the disease.
In Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, 11 million people have been on quarantine for over a month with no access to food and water. Community workers and volunteers have been delivering food to residents who can’t leave their homes using trucks with government permits .
The two most infected regions in Italy are also under forced lock-down, Police and members of the armed forces have been given the authority to enforce the lock down in the Italian towns the BBC reported.
Under the lock down, residents cannot to leave their homes or communities. government workers in China & Italy had been making daily visits to check on residents, ask for their temperatures and find out if they need any food supplies- but in Nigerians we may not have that sort of sophistication.
Preparing for a lock-down in Nigeria…(worst case scenario)
Buy masks, hand sanitizers, bleach, and gloves—as well as a month supply of any vital household medications. Stock up on food, drinking water, painkillers and decongestants. Avoid medications that suppress the immune system .
Corona Virus may live on infected surfaces for up to 9 days according to Nasdaq.com
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it may be possible for a person to become infected by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or eyes.
An analysis of 22 earlier studies of similar corona-viruses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome concluded that human corona-viruses can remain infectious on inanimate surfaces for up to nine days at room temperature. However, they can quickly be rendered inactive using common disinfectants, and may also dissipate at higher temperatures, the authors wrote.
That will explain why the chinese are spraying out their entire cities
The Corona Virus possibly surviving on external surfaces like rails or door knobs may also explain why the US recorded an infected person with no known history of travel to infected countries and entirely no contact with affected persons
So stay safe- stock up your homes with food and medical supplies and dont put those unwashed hands in your eyes, nose and mouth.
