Welcome to Chinese Muslim re-education centers/Brain wash camps:
The United Nations and US officials allege that at least one million Muslims are being forcefully held for re-education. Over the course of an indoctrination process lasting several months, they were forced to
- Renounce Islam,
- Criticize their own Islamic beliefs and those of fellow inmates
- Recite Communist Party propaganda songs for hours each day and chant long live Xi-Jinping
- There are media reports of inmates being forced to eat pork and drink alcohol which are forbidden to Muslims.
- There are also reports of torture, death and suicide
Sometimes they move from re-education centers to prison
According to the UN submission, those unsuccessful with the reeducation programme and are often criminally detained under “terrorism” or “separatism” charges
The group said: “Some families said that they had not learned the fate of their loved ones who were taken away to re-education camps until after the detainees had been transferred to prison
Muslims outside the camps are not exactly having fun;
- Routine security checks including phones are being searched
- They live in constant fear -facial and voice recognition devices are used to monitor what they read, who they talk to and where they go.
- Religious practices are suppressed – they are not allowed to wear long veils, not allowed to grow long beards, Chinese flags in the mosque
- Not allowed to give their kids specific Muslim names
Why is this happening-?
In the North West region of China (Xinjiang province) lives a minority group of Chinese people different from the rest of the Chinese population
They don’t speak Chinese, or eat Chinese food. some of them don’t even look Chinese
They are majority Sunni Muslims and are surrounded by other Muslims countries in the region
They are called the “Uighurs”. The Chinese government took over their region in 1949 through political arrangement. But their stark difference to the ethnic Chinese people is clear.
They refer to themselves as East Turkestan and China has long feared they would attempt to establish their own homeland
This region is important to China for political and economic reasons
This led to a lot of repressive governmental policies against the Uighurs Muslims in China.
Due to the repressive policies, occasional bloody clashes broke out between the Muslim China Uighurs and Hans China (typical ethnic Chinese citizens) resulting in hundreds of deaths.
Chinese officials have claimed that in order to suppress the threat of Uighur separatism and extremism, the government needs to crack down not only on those Uighurs who show signs of having been radicalized, but on a significant swath of the population.
Chinese Government’s ‘strike hard’ campaign against terrorism, separatism, and religious extremism,”
According to reports, Beijing began by targeting Uighur extremists, but now even benign manifestations of Muslim identity—like growing a long beard—can get a Uighur sent to a brain wash camp called re-education centers.
Police checkpoints are literally everywhere, citizens are being interrogated frequently. I remember when I was in Kashgar, I was demanded to show my ID card and frisked 5 times by local police in order to withdrawal some cash from an ATM 100 meters away from the hotel I stayed. In urban areas, there were police booths every 100 or 150 meters that stationed several fully armed police, armored cars were also patrolling on the street.
When a UN panel confronted a senior Chinese official about the camps, he said there are “no such things as reeducation centers, “instead, he claimed they’re just vocational schools for criminals.
China population are being sold a different story;
China has been selling a very different narrative to its own population. Although the authorities frequently describe the internment camps as schools, they also liken them to another type of institution: hospitals.
They have been infected with religious extremism and violent terrorist ideology, and therefore they must seek treatment from a hospital as an inpatient. … The religious extremist ideology is a type of poisonous medicine, which confuses the mind of the people. … If we do not eradicate religious extremism at its roots, the violent terrorist incidents will grow and spread all over like an incurable malignant tumor.
