Harvey Weinstein, Roger Ailes and Bill Cosby: How Hollywood is making sexual assault the new pop culture

Welcome to Hollywood! Let’s press play shall we?

Meet the predators / Abusers…at least the ones we know.

Harvey Weinstein:

He is an important back stage altar in Hollywood. A power broker and a political donor. A blessing or curse from his oracle could make or break your career. He co-founded Miramax studio with his brother, sold it to Disney then created the Weinstein Company.

His studio is credited with revolutionizing the film business, by producing and distributing critically-acclaimed hits.

Weinstein’s canny ability to market and sell a movie meant he could make or break your career at his whim.

He was particularly known for aggressive Oscar campaigns, outspending his rivals on ads, events and lobbying to ensure his movies or stars took home the statuette. Actors like Gwyneth Paltrow, Meryl Streep and Christoph Waltz benefited from his patronage, all making sure to heap praise on the man during their Oscar acceptance speeches.

Late Roger Ailes

CNN maybe the most watched new network around the world, but Fox New network is number one news Channel in America and Roger Ailes was the Channel CEO.

A political juggernaut, he decides  who and what stays in the news.

If you are a republican and want to win an election, the hearts of the people or twist a story to your favor, Roger Ailes was the altar to worship.

He was strategic in the election of top republicans like George bush and Donald Trump. He was simply that powerful. He passed on in May 2017

Bill Cosby

We all know him because he was in front of the camera. Who could suspect anything suspicious about our adorable Dr. Huxtable? His trial for sexual assault ended in a deadlock as the jury was not able to reach a unanimous decision.

Its either his superstar status worked for him or they found it hard to prosecute a blind old man.

But men these guys are so old,  is it a sixties thing?

Meet the assaulted…At least a few we know.

Megan Kelly. Assaulted by Fox news chairman Roger Ailes

Megyn Kelly, one of the network’s biggest stars told 21st Century Fox investigators that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her a decade earlier.

Kelly claims that after months of harassment, the 76-year-old “crossed a new line” in January 2006 when he grabbed her and repeatedly tried to kiss her. Upon shoving him away, Kelly alleges Ailes asked her the “ominous question” of “When is your contract up?” before trying to kiss her for a third time.

Kelly says she never succumbed to any of his advances that she claims stopped when she reported Ailes behavior to her supervisor

Angelina Jolie assaulted by Harvey Weinstein

“I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did,” Ms. Jolie, 42, said in an email to The New York Times. “This behavior toward women in any field, any country is unacceptable.”

Janice Dickinson assaulted by Bill Cosby
Year of Alleged Incident: 1982.

Dickinson claims Cosby contacted her after she got out of rehab and convinced her to travel to Lake Tahoe to have dinner and discuss a possible job opportunity. After the dinner, she alleges that he gave her a pill to help with menstrual cramps.

“The next morning, I woke up and I wasn’t wearing my pajamas, and I remember before I passed out that I had been sexually assaulted by this man,” she claims. “Before I woke up in the morning, the last thing I remember was Bill Cosby in a patchwork robe, dropping his robe and getting on top of me. And I remember a lot of pain.”

Gwyneth Paltrow assaulted by Harvey Weinstein

Just after she was chosen to star in an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel “Emma,” Gwyneth Paltrow said, she was invited to Mr. Weinstein’s hotel suite, where he suggested a massage in the bedroom. She said she refused. Weinstein threatened her to keep her quiet. “I thought he was going to fire me,” she said of the producer who helped jump-start her career.

Ms. Paltrow, went on to star in his movies including “Shakespeare in Love,” for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress, “Iron Man” and “The Avengers,”

Most of these big shots have been carrying these acts for years. Bill cosby was as far as in 1965 and Harvey Weinstein was in the seventies. But years later someone blows the whistle and the walls come crashing down.

Let’s meet some of the whistle blowers

Hannibal Burress:

On October 2014, a standup comedian gave a joke alluding to Cosby’s covert sexual misbehavior. This joke went viral and ignited a firestorm as women started coming forward with their stories. He has since become feminist hero

Gretchen Carlson

Ex miss USA was one of the top hosts of fox news. She was repeatedly harassed by Roger Ailes. He frustrated her so much when she refused his advances.

He gave her a less popular show. Moved her away from prime time TV, stopped her from interviewing notable figures.

But she kept doing her job. Eventually he fired her.

She had endured so much suffering for eleven years.  she took a bold step and sued him, a move never done before.

The media did the rest with their coverage and the rest was history.

The New York Times:

They are like the Sahara reporters of Nigeria, but unlike Sahara reporters their investigation runs really deep. They are an online Magazine, police, CIA and secret service all in one.  The did the story that exposed Harvey and his history of sexual assaults.

The fall from the throne

Harvey Weinstein  was fired from the company he co-created

His name is being dropped from all movie credits past and present

He is about to be dropped from the board of the Academy awards

Bill cosby: he was stripped of his honorary Navy Uniforms, Degrees from universities and titles.

Roger Ailes was fired from fox news. He could not hang around in the political circles where he was popular so he had to rescind from the public eye

The self-righteousness:

When there is so much media scrutiny in a story like Harvey Weinstein. Nobody wants to be caught on the wrong side.

Are we saying his brother did not know he was a serial sexual abuser? Now all of a sudden he is fired from a company they co own together (because the general public found out)

There is also a growing need for celebrities who have been seen with Roger Ailes over the years to disavow his behavior or else they would remain on the wrong side of history.

Trust some women to cash in on the trend.

With three giants fallen, the power dynamics have changed.

If a woman names a popular celebrity, cries in press briefing and claim to have been assaulted; a media trial would take place and he would instantly be found guilty.

Bill o’Riley was fox news biggest star. Until he also fell from grace after being accused. One of the women says he called her hot chocolate and grunted when he passed her desk

Digging deep into the story He made the normal passes a man would make to a woman he is interested in, well he got sued, paid millions in settlement and still got fired.
